Do you know that every act of sin has its root in our heart?
Do you know that this is where the work starts?
Jeremiah 17:10 (NLT) states, “But I, the Lord, search all hearts and examine secret motives. I give all people their due reward according to what their actions deserve.”
Our hearts is what is judged. That’s why we are to practice the scripture that says “Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life” Proverbs 4:23 (NLT)
We need to be more careful about what we allow to stay in our hearts.
In Matthew 5:28, just looking at a woman with lustful intent has already condemned the person of adultery. Sin involves more than just physical actions; it includes thought and attitude. It is easy to say, “I do not commit murder,” but are you inwardly angry with your brother?
Jesus gave us a strict warning: He said,
“Except your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will not see the kingdom of God.”
Righteousness is a matter of both outwardly following the law and inwardly reflecting the spirit behind the law.
He knows our hearts
He sees behind closed doors
He knows our motives
we cannot fool Him.
We need to ask ourselves this question every day:
AM I TWO-FACED?
